Since the shift in the workplace culture from having to drive to work Mon.-Fri. to working from home due to Covid, many employees have found that remote work has given them an extra job perk that makes their lives more manageable and more enjoyable. If a company is trying to encourage or even demand that their employees come back to the office more than they are comfortable with and feel is necessary then here are 3 outstanding reasons not to that are hard for any company to argue with!
Reduces carbon emissions due to less vehicles on the road polluting the atmosphere. Any company should be more than willing to participate in the protection of the earth’s ozone layer. Less traffic on the road each day will also help preserve the infrastructure and save the government $ which could lead to lower tax rates.
Saves natural resources by utilizing less energy be it gasoline or electricity via having to drive to and from work 5 days a week. Cumulatively this makes a huge difference and could lead to the U.S. being less dependent on oil from foreign countries and lower gas prices due to reduced demand. Wouldn’t those resources be better utilized on things like national defense or making sure our homes have enough power during extreme conditions?
Helps employees save their own $ by not having to spend as much on gas or electricity to travel to and from work 5 days a week. Not to mention the $ saved on clothing and childcare. Also, the time it takes to drive all of those days could be better spent helping the company increase their bottom line via more time to spend on important projects. It’s been proven that satisfied employees are productive employees.
Of course there are many more good reasons but these are very difficult for an employer to argue with. Houston, TX based Fresh Lawn allows their employees to work from home 3 days a week while spending 2 days a week in the office to team build and work on collaborative projects. As a direct result the company has been able to reduce their overall expenditure on office space and the necessities to maintain the space for a full time workforce 5 days a week. The company has seen increased productivity and much more satisfied employees.
It is up to each individual company to decide what is right for them and come up with the best policy. They should keep in mind that what is good for their company might not be good for the population as a whole. If there is a problem with the country there is a good chance that there will be a problem with their business. You can’t run a proper business in a country that is not properly running!
